International Humanitarian Law Workshop

The Center offers a free weekend workshop on International Humanitarian Law (IHL, also known as the “laws of war”) in coordination with the American Red Cross. The workshop is open to all Arizona law and graduate students and past workshops have included students from Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, the University of Arizona and the Phoenix School of Law. The goal of the workshop is to provide students with an overview of the historical development of IHL and familiarity with the Geneva Conventions and Optional Protocols I and II. The workshop also covers key IHL concepts, the relationship between IHL and international human rights law, the rules that apply to non-international armed conflicts, prisoners of war, protection of non-combatants and related issues. Students that successfully finish the workshop receive a certificate of completion.
