Obtaining Examination Copies from Publishers

In addition to links to web sites, we have included the procedure for obtaining examination copies (actual text of the publisher's policy or information from customer service representatives). If you do not locate the publisher you need on this list below, visit this site: FindLaw Legal Publishers. If you need further assistance, please feel free to contact a librarian.

Aspen Publishing
Aspen provides examination copies to professors who are either currently teaching a course where the book is being considered for adoption or have been assigned a new course in a pertinent subject area. Instructions for making a request online or via telephone are given, and there is a link at the bottom of the site that allows you to send an email if additional information is needed.

Austin & Winfield (Now part of The Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group)
This page features a wide range of books designed especially for use in your courses. Titles are cross listed in relevant subject areas. You'll find complete descriptions, tables of contents, special text features, sample chapters, and links to authors' web pages. You can also request up to three exam copies from a title's course book page.

BNA Books
Professors may request any BNA book for possible adoption on a 60-day examination basis. If you notify BNA that a firm order is placed for at least 10 copies, your invoice will be canceled. If not, you may keep the book at a 25% educator's discount (plus tax and shipping) or return it and BNA will cancel your invoice. Faculty may call their customer service department at 1-800-960-1220 to request an examination copy.
 
Carolina Academic Press 
Examination copies of some books are available to faculty teaching in the subject area. A link is present at the bottom of the screen for books that have review copies available.

Please send your request via fax on institution letterhead or via e-mail marketing@wshein.com to the attention of the Sales & Marketing Department. You may review the book for 60 days. At that time, if you order the book for your class, you may keep the book free-of-charge. If you choose not to place an order, you may return the book to Hein or pay the amount on the invoice.

Juris Publishing
Desk copies are sometimes available. Please call 1-800-887-4064 to inquire on availability.
 
Kluwer Publishing
Merged with Spring-Verlaq and operating under the joint Springer brand, Springer-Verlag provides 60-day approval copies of many of its books to qualified instructors for adoption consideration. Please fill out their online form  press the "submit" button or print and fax to the Textbook Sales Support Department at 201-348-4505. Please be sure to read the 60-day policy and check the box to acknowledge. Allow 3-4 weeks for delivery. All requests are subject to the approval of Springer's Textbook Sales Force.

Lexis Law Publishing
Complimentary copies of titles are usually available for review upon request to professors who are teaching, or planning to teach, courses for which the requested text might be adopted. The site listed above gives instructions for making the request online. Faculty can also contact their Publishing Representative to request a review copy; representative contact information is linked from the site.
 
National Institute for Trial Advocacy
Complimentary copies of most NITA materials are available to professors who have not previously received a copy of the requested book and who are currently teaching a course, or are scheduled to teach a course in the near future where a text stands a realistic chance of classroom adoption. Nolo Press
The first five Examination copies are free ($8 per title prepaid there after.) You are allowed to order a maximum of five books per class, per term, one (1) copy per title. Please complete an Examination Copy Order Form.
 
Oceana Books
Oceana Books offers examination copies to qualified instructors. In order for your request to be processed, please browse for the title you are interested in receiving and click on the "Request Examination Copy" link on the right-hand sidebar of the title's webpage under Valuable Links & Resources. You may also send your request via fax on university letterhead with contact information, course name, expected enrollment, and the date you would need the book by to the Faculty Services department at 919-677-1303. Oxford University Press
Oxford University Press offers examination copies to qualified instructors. In order for your request to be processed, please browse for the title you are interested in receiving and click on the "Request Examination Copy" link on the right-hand sidebar of the title's webpage under Valuable Links & Resources . Practising Law Institute
Examination copies of PLI publications are available to law school faculty members who are currently or will be teaching courses related to the subject matter of the publication. You may e-mail a request for an examination copy to Mark Dighton at mdighton@pli.edu. When making your request, please provide PLI with the name of the course, the semester it is to be offered, the projected enrollment, and the date by which you will decide whether to adopt the book for assigned or supplemental reading. For more information, please contact Mark Dighton at 212-824-5841.
 
RIA

The Rowman Littlefield Publishing Group
Review copies are available to genuine review editors and reviewers. Copies will be sent to relevant and recognized publications entirely at the publisher's discretion.  West provides print copies of teacher’s manuals for free to faculty members. To request a teacher’s manual,  
 contact Kathy Zeug the Westlaw rep for faculty. She will order the manual at no charge and it will be shipped 
 directly to the professor. Email her at

Some teacher’s manuals are available online through TWEN (The West Education Network).
1.   To access TWEN, got to www.lawschool.westlaw.com.
 
2.   Enter your West OnePass Username and Password or your West password in the
                  appropriate field(s).
 
2.   Click on the TWEN link.
 
3.   Select Add a Course.
 
3.   Under National TWEN Courses, select the checkbox next to the desired course.
 
4.   Click submit at the bottom of the page to return to the TWEN home page. The  
                  course you added is now displayed on your TWEN home page.
 
5.   Select the course to view the site. 


Foundation Press:
Complimentary review copies of texts are available to professors who wish to consider adopting them or recommending them to their classes, if they have not received previous copies. This policy includes study aids such as Hornbooks, Concise Hornbooks, Nutshells, Concepts and Insights, Foundations of Law, Turning Point Series and University Textbooks which may be recommended by the professor for collateral reading. Provide West with the name and semester of your assigned courses and your office contact information when requesting examination copies of publications. This policy performs the dual purpose of providing you with review copies of publications suitable for adoption or recommendation to students while at the same time attempting to keep the student price of our books as low as possible.  Complimentary copies are shipped via ground transportation and should arrive 5-7 days after you place your order.
