Lodestar Dispute Resolution

The Lodestar Dispute Resolution Program is a nationally recognized center for teaching and scholarship in the field of dispute resolution.  In a world where more than 98% of all filed civil and criminal cases are resolved before trial, a quality legal education must allow students to develop expertise in the processes through which most disputes are resolved: negotiation, mediation, and arbitration.

The Lodestar Program’s efforts in teaching, scholarship, and community service have been recognized by the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (the inaugural 9th Circuit ADR in Education Award), the International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution (two CPR Awards), and the US News rankings for dispute resolution specialty programs (11th in the 2016 rankings). Additionally, ASU Law students have received invaluable training in advocacy competitions, winning three national titles and 11 regional titles in the ABA Representation in Mediation Competition, one first and two second place finishes in the Michael Thorsnes International Commercial Arbitration Moot, and one second place finish in the Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Competition in Hong Kong.
