Title

Just Transition: Confronting Impacts of the Navajo Generating Station Closure

The Navajo Generating Station — a large coal-fired power plant near Page, Arizona — permanently ceased operations in November of 2019. Arizona's only commercial coal mine, the Kayenta mine, also closed in August of last year. The power plant and mine had long been an important source of revenue and jobs for the Navajo Nation. This distinguished panel will discuss Salt River Project's recent efforts to assist the Navajo Nation in its transition away from heavy reliance on the power plant and mine and toward more environmentally and economically sustainable forms of development.
