JD admissions

What is the Juris Doctor (JD) program?

The Juris Doctor (JD) degree incorporates academic and practical learning to prepare students to practice law or work in a related field. Students in the JD program learn legal research, writing, analytical and advocacy skills to build the knowledge and abilities to become a successful lawyer and leader.

What qualities does ASU Law look for in JD candidates?

ASU Law seeks to enroll a dynamic group of individuals who will provide an engaging learning environment. The admissions committee makes decisions after considering all the information provided by the applicant. Among the factors influencing the admission decision are LSAT or JD-Next performance, undergraduate grade point average, undergraduate major, quality and grading patterns of undergraduate institutions, previous graduate education, future career goals, work and leadership experience, extracurricular or community activities, uniqueness of experience and background, maturity, ability to communicate, foreign language proficiency, honors and awards, service in the armed forces and publications.

ASU Law launched a test-optional pathway for JD applicants beginning with the fall 2026 full-time, on-campus application. The test-optional pathway is open to all applicants without a valid LSAT or JD-Next score and who do not plan to take the LSAT or JD-Next.

ASU Law is committed to a more sustainable and resilient future and requires applicants to apply online through the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) website.
