The Future of Legal Education Convening

An invitation to law school colleagues, legal professionals and the wider legal community to join us for The Future of Legal Education: A Convergence of Online, Hybrid and Classroom Technology

Legal education is at an inflection point

“As student needs, professional pathways and delivery models continue to evolve, law schools are being asked to rethink not only what we teach, but how we teach, while maintaining rigor, community and outcomes. The Future of Legal Education: A Convergence of Online, Hybrid and Classroom Technology will bring law school leaders, faculty and administrators together for a candid, practice-focused convening on what is working, what is emerging and what comes next in legal education delivery.”

Why this and why now?

This convening is rooted in a simple reality:
The need is far too great for any one law school to address alone

Communities across the country, particularly those in legal deserts, face persistent shortages of lawyers equipped to serve in public interest, government and community-based roles. Meeting the needs of today’s students and tomorrow’s clients will require law schools to learn from one another, share effective practices and work collectively to expand access without compromising quality. This convening is an invitation to come together in service of our students, our profession and the communities that depend on us.

The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University enters this conversation with deep and sustained experience. For more than a decade, ASU Law has delivered master’s-level legal education online, serving working professionals across industries, geographies and stages of life. ASU Law is No. 1 nationally in legal master’s graduates, a testament to the quality, scale and effectiveness of its online education model.

That experience serving adult learners who balance careers, families and service commitments has generated valuable insights into course design, student engagement, assessment and faculty support. Those lessons now inform how ASU Law approaches digital and hybrid learning across its JD and graduate programs, strengthening both online and in-person instruction.

A defining feature of the convening will be the participation of ASU EdPlus, Arizona State University’s digital education unit and a key partner in ASU Law’s success. EdPlus brings national expertise in online pedagogy, instructional design and scalable learning models, working alongside law faculty to create intentionally designed digital and hybrid classrooms. Participants will engage with practical strategies for course design, faculty support, student engagement, assessment and the thoughtful integration of technology into legal education.

The convening will take place in person at ASU Law in fall 2026 and is designed for law schools at every stage of their digital learning journey, from early exploration to established online or hybrid programs seeking to refine and scale. Programming will focus on shared challenges, tested approaches and lessons learned across institutions.
