Rising 3L earns scholarship to pursue IP law passion
A rising third-year law student at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University has received a prestigious scholarship to help her pursue a career in intellectual property law.
Kylie Snow was awarded a 2024 DRI Law Student Diversity Scholarship, which recognizes students who have come from historically marginalized groups within the field of law and have proven records of academic excellence, along with two other law students from schools across the U.S. The news was announced on June 14 at DRI's Diversity for Success Seminar in Nashville. DRI is an international membership organization for attorneys defending the interests of businesses and individuals in civil litigation.
“I felt the scholarship essay offered a unique platform to explore how technology can revolutionize legal frameworks and reshape the future of law,” she said. “This specific scholarship stood out to me because it not only recognized academic excellence but also encouraged critical thinking about the evolving role of AI in our legal system.”
Snow intends to use her $5,000 prize to offset the costs of exams such as the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination, the bar exam and the patent bar, and purchase study materials and courses to help her prepare for them. She plans to move to California after graduation in 2025, where IP law is flourishing. Before joining ASU Law, Snow earned two degrees at ASU: a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in cellular and molecular biology.
Snow, who recently earned a 2024-2025 Lisa Foundation Patent Scholarship through ASU Law, encouraged her fellow students to apply for scholarships, even if they have doubts about the outcome. She said the DRI scholarship was particularly interesting to her this year as a woman involved in science and technology law, as the required essay focused on AI’s impact in the legal field.
“Winning this scholarship is an affirmation of my academic success and a recognition of my potential to contribute meaningfully to the legal profession,” she said. “It’s not just a financial boost but a morale booster as well, reinforcing my commitment to pursuing a career in law.”
