Emerging technologies are rapidly transforming both the substance and practice of law in almost every area. Artificial intelligence, precision medicine, big data, autonomous systems, blockchain, 3D printers, drones, and mobile apps are just some of the developments that raise novel legal issues with regard to regulation, liability, privacy, intellectual property, individual rights, and how lawyers and professionals practice every day. ASU Law is dedicated to training 21st-century lawyers who will have unique expertise and competitive advantage in today’s legal world.


Center for Law, Science and Innovation

The Center for Law, Science and Innovation serves as a resource to support and connect our students with unique content, contacts, skills, and resources to prepare them for modern legal practice. ASU Law offers more than 50 law, science, and technology related courses, supported and taught by our 50+ faculty fellows. Programs and projects include annual conferences, workshops and speakers, individual and group research activities, and sci-tech externships and clinical work.

Juris Doctor (JD) students can pursue a Certificate in Law, Science and Technology, giving our graduates a competitive edge with employers and clients and signaling preparation for practice in the 21st century. Student opportunities

At ASU Law, LSI is home to intellectual property, life sciences and biotechnology, governance of emerging technologies focus areas, and our newest addition - data, privacy, and security. In each area, LSI offers a specialized graduation certificate with robust coursework, student cohorts with attorney and faculty mentorship, and presentation and publication opportunities. In addition, LSI collaborates with five ASU Law student organizations, programs in health lawinternational law, and sustainability law, and other ASU partners to create an interdisciplinary understanding of the issues driven by science and technology that span all areas of law, policy, and practice.
