ASU Law student awarded Sustained Impact Human Rights Fellowship from Squire Patton Boggs Foundation and Human Rights Watch

Hannah Knight, a second-year JD student at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, was awarded the Sustained Impact Human Rights Fellowship in Washington, D.C., through the Squire Patton Boggs Foundation and Human Rights Watch.

Knight, who aspires to work in international criminal law, has long been committed to international norms, the rule of law and global peace.

“Human Rights Watch’s mission aligns deeply with my values, and I’m eager to contribute to their work,” she said.

The fellowship will allow Knight to work with the Crisis, Conflict and Arms division at Human Rights Watch, where she’ll gain experience in high-stakes research, investigations and advocacy.

“The Foundation’s support is key in allowing students to contribute their time and energy to meaningful projects and causes in service of others without having to worry about how they are going to fund their summers,” said Vanessa Pineda, ASU Law public interest director. “The Sustained Impact Fellowships are a one-of-a-kind opportunity to receive mentorship from attorneys at Squire Patton Boggs and work with such esteemed nonprofit organizations as Human Rights Watch.

Knight credits ASU Law’s resources for preparing her for this opportunity. The International Rule of Law and Security program has provided her with networking and job prospects, while the Society of International Law has connected her with like-minded peers. She also praised ASU Law’s Washington, D.C., team, Andrea Cayley, executive director, and Robin Grieff, career services director, for their mentorship and support, which have been instrumental in helping her navigate the fellowship process.

Vanessa Pineda’s endorsement was also crucial in securing this opportunity,” Knight said. “Their guidance has been essential to my success.”

ASU Law provides students with a wealth of resources to help them succeed both academically and professionally. From its dedicated faculty and specialized programs to its extensive networking opportunities, ASU Law ensures students have the tools to thrive in their careers.
