A longtime Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University faculty member is joining the school’s leadership team. Erin Scharff will serve as ASU Law’s Associate Dean of Research and Faculty Development, taking over from her predecessor Laura Coordes, who will return to the faculty full-time.

Scharff said she feels lucky to work with brilliant colleagues and be part of the law school administration to help impact legal education. Scharff joined ASU Law in 2014. Prior to joining the ASU faculty, she had a fellowship in tax law at New York University School of Law.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to work with Dean Stacy Leeds and my colleagues in supporting their scholarship and work at the law school,” she said.

As part of her new role, Scharff will work to support faculty development, research and scholarship. Scharff will also mentor junior faculty members and continue to build on an already very successful faculty team whose work has a global impact. She will continue teaching, including torts to first-year law students, tax law and more alongside her leadership duties.

“The law school has brilliant people doing cutting-edge work, and I am excited to support them as they do that work,” she said.

Outside the law school, Scharff also serves as board president of the local legal nonprofit Phoenix Legal Action Network.
