Zachary Gubler named Associate Dean of Research and Faculty Development at ASU Law

Zachary Gubler, the Marie Selig Professor of Law at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, has been appointed as the school’s associate dean of research and faculty development. He succeeds Erin Scharff, who will return to full-time teaching and scholarship after serving in the role.

Gubler, who joined the ASU Law faculty in 2011, said he is honored to step into the position and continue building on the school’s strong record of impactful faculty research.

“I’m excited about this new role,” he said. “ASU Law is home to brilliant legal minds doing important work, and I look forward to supporting my colleagues in all of their scholarly endeavors.”

As associate dean, Gubler will focus on advancing faculty development, research and scholarly output, as well as mentoring junior faculty members. He will also continue teaching courses in corporate law and financial and securities regulation alongside his administrative duties.

“Zach is deeply respected, not only for his collaborative leadership style and mentorship of others but also for his own outstanding scholarship and research,” said Stacy Leeds, Willard H. Pedrick Dean and Regents Professor of Law. "He will bring fresh perspectives that will further advance ASU Law’s teaching and research excellence."

Before joining ASU Law, Gubler served as a Climenko Fellow at Harvard Law School, clerked for Judge Richard C. Wesley of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and practiced as a corporate associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York City. He earned his JD from Harvard Law School, where he served as articles editor of the Harvard Law Review.

Gubler’s research focuses on corporate law and financial and securities regulation, with recent work examining insider trading law and the institutional design of securities regulation. His scholarship has been published in leading law reviews, anthologized in prominent collections and recognized with national awards.
