The Indian Legal Program (ILP) at ASU Law is one of the most respected Indian law programs in the nation. Since the ILP was established in 1988, students have graduated from the program, offering positive contributions to help Native communities during their time as law students and beyond.

With Election Day approaching, ASU Law's Arizona Native Vote Election Protect Project (NVEPP) is helping Native American voters safeguard their voting rights. This project started in 2008 after Native Americans were disproportionately disenfranchised by Arizona Proposition 200, Arizona's voter identification law, and strives to protect the right to vote for Native American voters.

Online Strategies | Story

In a state with 2.1 lawyers per 1,000 residents, the paraprofessional program at ASU Law aims to address the shortage of lawyers in Arizona by allowing non-lawyers to offer limited legal services. This emphasis, which offers both full-time and part-time options with the flexibility of in-person and online learning, provides students access to expert faculty and curricular resources. It effectively prepares them to take the paraprofessional test after graduation and obtain their license to practice law without being an attorney.

ASU Law ranks #13 among U.S. public law schools

ASU Law has achieved impressive rankings in the latest 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Announced earlier this month, ASU Law secured the #13 spot among U.S. public law schools and #32 among all U.S. law schools.

This ranking underscores ASU Law's commitment to providing an exceptional academic experience for the next generation of successful lawyers and industry leaders.

Native Vote

The Arizona Native Vote Election Protect Project has been gearing up for the upcoming elections. The project's goal is to safeguard the voting rights of Native American voters. It was established in 2008 in response to the disproportionate disenfranchisement of Native Americans after the enactment of Arizona Proposition 200, the state's voter identification law.

Led by ASU Law's Indian Legal Clinic Director Patty Ferguson-Bohnee and Democracy Director Joel Edman, along with the dedicated efforts of students, the project has been addressing crucial voting rights issues, such as ballot collection, election protection, voter access, tribal authority and data collection.
