Degree Pathways

At ASU Law, students have access to a variety of academic programs and opportunities, including JD, LLM, MLS, MSLB and MHREL degrees with specialized tracks in business law, sports law, intellectual property law and more. Our curriculum is enriched by practical experiences, interdisciplinary research and professional networking, equipping graduates with the skills and knowledge to excel in their career journeys.

Degrees and certificates

Juris Doctor (JD)

A JD degree is beyond just preparing individuals for legal practice and qualifying them to take the bar exam. The JD equips graduates with critical thinking, analytical reasoning and problem-solving abilities that are highly transferable across diverse careers. Whether pursuing a career in law, business, government or nonprofit sectors, JD holders bring a deep understanding of legal frameworks, ethics and negotiation skills to their roles.

An integral part of the JD curriculum is the top-ranked Legal Method and Writing Program. This program is designed to ensure practice-ready students who are well-equipped to succeed when they begin externships, summer jobs, clerkships and legal careers. 

Concurrent Juris Doctor/Master of Sports Law and Business (JD/MSLB)

The Allan “Bud” Selig Sports Law and Business program allow students to earn both a Juris Doctor and a Master of Sports Law and Business in just seven semesters. Students enrolled in this dual degree program will have the chance to become lawyers, along with all the benefits of the MSLB program, including access to renowned faculty members, networking opportunities and so much more.

JD certificates

ASU Law certificates are specialized credentials that allow students to focus their studies in key areas. These certificates enhance JD degrees by providing in-depth expertise and recognition in specific legal fields.

Master of Laws (LLM)

An LLM degree is for legal professionals (with a JD degree or foreign equivalent) seeking specialized expertise in a specific area of law. It enhances career opportunities by deepening knowledge, expanding networks, and often facilitating entry into higher-level roles in law firms, multinational corporations, government agencies, and academia.

Master of Sports Law and Business (MSLB)

The Allan “Bud” Selig Sports Law and Business program at ASU Law is a unique program that blends the study of sports, law and business from a nationally-ranked law school. The program is led by world-class faculty, starting with the program’s esteemed namesake: MLB Commissioner Emeritus Allan “Bud” Selig. Individuals who earn a master’s degree in this program gain unparalleled expertise at the intersection of sports, law and business, access to top-tier faculty, industry leaders and hands-on experiences in a city renowned for its vibrant sports culture. Master of Legal Studies (MLS)

If you want to understand legal principles and apply them to your field of interest without actually becoming a lawyer, the MLS is for you. An MLS degree from ASU Law can open new professional opportunities or simply enhance the career you already have. Master of Human Resources and Employment Law (MHREL)

Pursuing a MHREL degree equips students with specialized knowledge to navigate complex labor laws and employment regulations. This program, available both online and in-person, prepares graduates for careers in HR leadership, labor advocacy and legal compliance, enabling them to effectively manage complex human resource challenges.
